Message from the CEO

50 days into the job and I am even more positive about the future of the British Coatings Federation than I was when I joined at the beginning of April.

I have visited a number of member companies around the

UK and plan more visits in the months ahead. Everywhere I have gone, it is clear that the British Coatings Federation has an important role to play in the industries it serves and I see it as my role to ensure that your Federation adapts to the changing needs of Member companies.

In the coming months, you will see the BCF organizing a range of new activities. These have already been approved by the BCF Board and reflect the results of the recent Members’ survey. A number of new functional working parties aimed at business process improvement and public relations will be launched. Members will be invited to participate in a series of events which will be developed to help companies gain access to best practice in many aspects of business management.

Our motto going forward is ‘Prosper and Grow’, and we look forward to seeing all members gain material benefit from this new role for the BCF.

Those who attended the BCF Annual Conference and Dinner enjoyed an exceptionally well-organised event and a wide range of speakers who helped focus our minds on current issues facing the Coatings industry. We are already working on the format and location of next year’s event and look forward to increased participation in this banner event for the BCF.

Finally, we have been reminded recently of deadlines that are approaching on REACH and GHS in particular, that require the attention of our Members. We have recently held an update seminar on GHS issues and there will be similar events covering important REACH issues in early June.

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) is the sole trade association for the decorative, industrial and powder coatings, printing inks and wallcoverings manufacturing industry in the

UK . It represents a total market in the UK of £2.2 billion.

The BCF represents 130 companies, which produce about 90% of the

UK output of coatings, printing inks and wallcoverings. The Federation provides training initiatives, programmes and qualifications for the surface coatings industry; lobbies UK , European and International authorities for the benefit of members; develops industry-focussed guidance; agrees industry priorities; and encourages industry best practice.
